Discussion Question 2: Assault in the Military

 In this chapter, it explain jurisdiction and how it apply to the our society. In the zoom presentation, it indicates main three kinds of federal crimes jurisdiction, which are 1. foreign actions intervene inner or outer security of the national land (rendition). 2. involved crimes beyond the jurisdiction of any state. 3. military activities interrupt federal government activities [00:24:10] that reform the justice system from crime cases. In the piece of news, 500 women and men have experienced assaulting per week from the statistic of Pentagon report. As a result, US spent almost 41% of founds to benefit the active and reserved military and veterans in medical, including sexual assault treatment, the military court responsible occurred in military crimes or civilian crimes to avoid convictions. In my idea, it is sometimes hard to testify the victim confidently because they experienced different level of suffering, not everyone would tell the story to others or apply for assistance, especially minor women who served in the camp, so military law is a federal level law beyond state law.

Hi Alexis, 

I agree with you about the cover up role happen in military high ranking commanders because the rate keep going up; however, it takes the risk of losing military respect as well as its environment harm factors. I think there is another way hard to change the rule is because the military law is separate and zero tolerance in the military court. Based on the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice), " In their capacity as a service member of whatever branch of the military there and desertion willful disobedience of orders. We don't have a desertion or, willful disobedience that constitutes a crime in the private setting". Therefore, to deter a causation and proof the assault is getting harder and harder, other crimes like robbery and non verbal crimes are unable and hard to separate and clear off.
